The pitcher controlled numbers indicate Johan and Bedard being the leading contenders, but the media's idiocracy will prevent them from winning.
Edit: Thanks for all the thumbs down, but unfortunately it's already been proven statistically, (you know, the use of meaningful numbers, not just FEELINGS) that win/loss is way way way (way) too reliant on a pitcher's offensive play behind him. If you take Erik Bedard, and put him on the Yankees, he's already a 20 game winner, most likely. Does putting him on a better team make him a better pitcher? No, it gives the illusion of it, through poor statistical usage. W/L is by far and away the most overvalued stat used by the award voters. The save stat is pretty contrived and meaningless too. Look it up, this stuff isn't just coming out of my *** here.

Name G GS W L SV CG SHO IP
C.C. Sabathia 31 31 17 7 0 4 1 220.0
Josh Beckett 26 26 17 6 0 1 0 174.2
Wang 26 26 17 6 0 1 0 173.2
H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA
S 218 85 77 19 33 185 3.15 1.14 .260
B 165 67 64 12 36 165 3.30 1.15 .244
W 172 72 71 8 48 87 3.68 1.27 .264
So as I see it...Sabathia has the same number of wins, 3 more Complete games, 45 more innings, a better ERA, more strike outs, less walks, and a better WHIP than either. If this doesnt clearly give CC the Cy at this point, with his team in first and the third best record in the MLB, than he will never get it!

It is clearly Sabathia. All this talk "Wang should be a 21 game winner"...Sabathia is 17-7...4 of those losses he allowed 2 runs or less. You do the match. He still finishes with 20 wins, has the most innings pitched in the American League and sits at a highly respectable 3.13 ERA. I see all you baseball "know-it -alls" giving the thumbs down on answers that say CC. Make sure you do the same on mine. You will see how much of a Cy-Young pitcher he is in October when teams have to face him 2 times in a series. He is who YOUR team would love to have on the mound.

I gotta go with CC for now, but its not locked up. The field of good Cy Young candidates in the AL is so deep this year, that what guys do in their last 4-5 starts might determine the outcome.

both have been great Wang and Beckett but sadly i think Beckett will win only because the red sox are in first place in the Al east if the Yankees were first in the Al east then Wang would win it I'm amazed Wang has 17 wins and if the Yankee bullpen can keep the lead it will be 18 games he missed the month of April

truthfully. Sabathia had 19 wins. yet Zack Greinke picked up sixteen wins with the Royals. it particularly is totally stable. He grow to be a ok king. His era grow to be 2.sixteen. He deserved it. Congrats to Zack Greinke

It should go to Wang,And he was on the DL all of April and the first week of May,If it wasn't for that, he'd be a 21 game winner!

No.
Sabathia, Lackey, Escobar, and Bedard are all more deserving and all have better overall numbers than Beckett or Wang.
