I like my car and believe that I should maintain what I have, but I want and need a back up vehicle because here public transportation won't help. I'm considering one of these, particularly a Sportage or an Optima. I just want you guys personal (owners) opinion on them.

I'm more concerned with a car getting me from point A to B not the trade in value.

to John Paul, i don't want a Sport Ute, and i really don't consider the Sportage one since it's so small. It's probably built based on cars and not a truck (sorry i can't word that right, but i think someone knows what I mean)

oh yeah, i did own a Corolla, since it was my first car in '98 (i had a '96) but they seem so small now.

I'm afraid to say my dodge Stratus held up better than the Corolla. The starter was the first to go, my Stratus held up for a goof 6 years with no defects.

excuse the typo. "goof" was supposed to be "good".

Master tech Auto, you may have given me the right answer. I just may have to go with the Toyota, but I need a good, affordable vehicle (and I do miss my '96 Corolla)

I advise against KIA. You get what you pay for, they are cheap, they fall all to pieces, they rattle, they ware out QUICK.
Then the warranty doesn't cover ALOT of things you may think it does. If you buy one, please read the warranty papers carefully. I don't think you will be happy with it in the long run, but hey, I make money off of them. ALOT of money.

I'm not exactly sure how good Kia/Hyundai are about holding up their warranty but I do know that they have come a long way since they were first introduced in the U.S. Kia is owned by Hyundai and have pretty much the same components. Your best bet is to look up the vehicle on Caranddriver.com or motortrend.com to see some ratings. Yahoo autos also has a good section on reviews. To be honest I don't own a Kia but I certainly have a growing appeal for them. Tons of options and a cheaper price tag then most vehicles. As far as I'm concerned it would be a smart buy.

Think Hyundai / Kia will do the a to b thing nicely. Could be worth less than you owe almost as soon as you leave the dealership. Please drive the Honda Civic Nissan Sentra or Toyota Corolla. Or even the entry level cars from Japan's big three Honda FIT Toyota Yarus And Nissan Versa. All under 17,000 and very well equipt economy cars that will hold up a little better than the KIA Hyundai's. And Nissan's new crossover sport utility is THE ROGUE in dealers soon!

Personally i hate Kia's, I drove one once for about 2 weeks and i had more problems with it then a rental car, and it only had 20K on it!!!

Yes buyer beware on them..... I hope you got a good warranty.... take care of the care and keep your fingers crossed. They are not as good quality as the japanese or American cars...... like I said Warranty!!!!!!
