My 10 year old sister wants to start watching anime. Do anyone have any suggestions? I want to start her off with some thing simple. Friends hanging out in Tokyo hanging out kind of stuff.

Sailor Moon is pretty basic.
Magic Knights Rayearth.
Card Captor Sakura (the unedited version has a lot of same sex relationships)
Look at the parents guide to anime.

Theres a lot of good series out there, but some of them deal with sex or have graphic figh scenes. My sister loved Fushigi Yugi when she was younger, but I had to skip a few episodes since they dealt with rape.

Well, a 10 year old doesn't have that many options, since a lot of anime are not necessarily for kids or preteens.
But something like Cardcaptor Sakura, Inuyasha, or Sailor Moon would work(Just don't show her the dub, it's better with the original language with subtitles). Make sure that whatever you want to show her is for her age, since anime tends to have a lot of swearing or violence.

One of the tricky things in introducing anime to younger people is the Rating system. You really have to make sure a particular anime is suitable for kids.
Since the person you mentioned is a girl, I too would recommend Card Captor Sakura. It's got the nice sweet feel that oughta be really perfect.
