There's a diagram of a line with 5 points, A, D, B, E, C (in that order) and they are equally spaced. The question is, "In the figure below, B is the midpoint of line AC, D is the midpoint of line AB, and E is the midpoint of line BC. Show that AC=4AD.

AB = AD + DB
BC = BE + EC

AC = AD + DB + BE + EC

By the definition of midpoint AB is congruent to BC.
AD is congruent to DB. BE is congruent to EC.
Then AD, DB, BE, and EC are all congruent.
By substitution, AC = AD + AD + AD + AD or
AC = 4AD

This is a simple case of deductive reasoning;-}
sort of a combination of logic, algebra, geometry, etc.
If B is the midpoint of line AC, then AB = BC, & half of AC.
If D is the midpoint of line AB, then AD = DB, & half of AB
So if AD is half of AB, & AB is half of AC,
then AD is a quarter of AC, or AC = 4AD.

There's something wrong with this problem. Where does the 4 come from?I think something is missing.

AD=1/4 of AC so AC=4*AD DUH!
