Assume question is meant to be:-
5 / (2x - 1) = - 31
5 = (-31) (2x - 1)
5 = - 62 x + 31
62 x = 26
x = 26 / 62
x = 13 / 31
However if (5/2x) - 1 = - 31
(5 / 2x) = - 30
5 = - 60 x
x = - 5 / 60
x = - 1 / 12

x = -1/12

5/2x-1+1=-31+1

5/2x=-30

2x(5/2x)=-30(2x)

5=-60x
5/-60=x

-1/12 = x
