We have problems with mold in the bathroom at now both houses we have lived. The mold appears on the bathroom ceiling but nowhere else in the house.

We have used Kilz when we paint, we shower with the door and/or window open (no open in the winter), we clean as regularly as the majority of folks, but nothing works.

I have seen where you can plug in a fan that is to help with this problem, but the consumer reports I have read are mostly negative - so I am hesitant to drop $30/$40 on something that really doesn't do anything.

Any thoughts out there?

You must be creating a lot of steam when you shower!
Around here, bathrooms are supposed to have ventilation.
Usually, it's a ceiling fan, vented to the outside or roof-top.
If you have one, check that it's working, & not plugged up.
Check the filter & the exhaust pipe outside for debris.
If you don't have one, get one put in, soon.
Mold is dangerous & unhealthy to breathe.
To remove the mold, use a dilute bleach spray.
Get it from Home Depot or other cleaning supplies.
You can make your own, but not too strong.
Don't get it on fabrics or yourself.

If it were me, I'd leave a fan on all the time except when bathing. Ask at a hardware store or at Home Depot. See what they have to say and they can advise you.

By the way, this might be the reason the last owners left.

If you do not have an exhaust fan installed in your bathroom, get one put in! It not only helps to eliminate odors, it circulates the air, and removes the moisture in the air that sticks to surfaces and causes mould build up.

Get a dehumidifier, it takes the moisture that the mold thrives on out of the air
