I would say it depends what kind of induction. I only had to have pitocin because my water broke. They made the contractions very very strong. They gave me another medicine to take the edge off. However, it did what it was supposed to do and I only was in labor 2 hours after pitocin was administered. I think it just depends on your experience and mine was a very good one. Although I wont lie about the pain, I will say I would do it again if needed. I went from a four (which I stayed to for 6 hours) to an eight (almost as soon as I was given the pitocin) to a ten about 1 hour and 24 minutes after pitocin. 10 minutes later she was out. Total labor was less than eight hours. For me though it was a good experience. But, I would think it depends on your pain tolerance, how long your labor goes, and how easily you progress. This was my first baby so I expected it to be very slow. Also, for me the pain wore off as soon as I saw my daughter. Yes, I remember there was pain, but I don't remember the pain....if that makes sense. But it's the only way I can explain it as my experience. I'm already wanting another in a year or so. Congrats.

I was just induced a little over a week ago and was just at 39 weeks. As far as the more painful part, I can't tell you because this was my first pregnancy, but I was in a ton of pain until I got my epidural. The epidural helped a lot. They gave me cervadil to soften my cervix at 9:45 pm and were not supposed to start to induce till 6 or 7 in the morning. But I was in pain from around 10:30 pm until I had my epidural at 2:00pm the next day. I guess things just progressed after the cervadil and they kept me hooked up to all the monitors. I had the baby at 2:17pm the next day. My water broke in the middle of them giving me my epidural and as soon as that kicked in, I pushed the baby out 15 min later! This is just my experience though. Everyone's body is different. The only way I guess it could be MORE painful than natural labor, is that there is no progression. It just throws you into hard labor. Make sure you tell your husband that if at the time you are in so much pain you're not in your right mind, ;) that he tell the nurse you want an epidural as soon as you can get one! It dulled the pain so much! I think the pushing was the easiest part for me! :) Good luck, and don't be scared to ask for any medication they have! :)

Because you have already started to dilate they will probably give you an iv drip of pitocin.
Being induced is no harder than natural delivery, but the contractions will become stronger faster than they would if you went into labor naturally.
I was induced between 5pm and 6pm and delivered at 11:37pm with 4th pregnancy.
Some women have labored in an hour to 10 cm some still take a day or more.
Each pregnancy is different - good luck and try to keep up and moving around ti will help with pain management and to progress the labor.
Good luck

The contractions are worse with pitocin depending on the dosage and how often it is upped.they had me on a drip where the dosage increased every 15 minutes. MISERABLE. However my water had broken but I wasn't in labor and my cervix was still closed tight. Since you had a fast easy delivery with your first baby and you are already dialating it may take very little to get you going and Then they can back off the dose and let your body do it. The worse part of it is you have no adjustment time between stages of labor....I went from no contractions to full on pushing contractions with no change in my cervix so it was to much pain at once for me to adjust too. Good luck hun..I can't wait till I get to 39 weeks!!!

Please know that by agreeing to be induced you are doubling your chance of having a C-section.
There are different methods of inducing: breaking your water, gel to soften your cervix, Pitocin to dilate your cervix, and Cytotec which does both and which has NOT been approved by the Federal Drug Administration to be used in pregnant women or for induction but which is used frequently. Which method is your doctor using? Ask questions of your provider ahead of time to see if you are comfortable with his method.
IF it was me, I wouldn't show up to be induced until I had the answers. At 39 weeks you've got plenty of time to wait.
Frankly, I've never heard of dilation going from 2 back to a half. I would question that as well. Perhaps he was referring the first time to STATION and the next time to dilation.
Birth blessings.

I was once prompted with my daughter. My Doctor would not set off till I had truthfully dilated to no less than 1cm. I have no idea if that is natural train or simply him. I'm pregnant once more and at close to 36 weeks now. Since final time was once so painful (two days of lively exertions and an hour and a part of pushing) with an epidural that did not paintings, I might certainly not in one million years allow them to set off once more. I desired the epidural and I do that time too, nevertheless there may be whatever like 20% or extra of females who selected is and feature the article installed and it certainly not works for them. So now not most effective might you be having seventy five% extra painful contractions, you don't have any remedy. I would not propose being prompted until you Doctor offers you evidence that it is medically damaging on your youngster. My first one I requested for it and obtained what I desired, however they could not pay me to do it once more.

I was induced on my 40th week of pregnancy. I was in labor for 14 hours and it wasnt bad AT ALL!! It was suprinsingly easy. Just make sure they dont rush on how much Petocin (sp?) they give you. They gave me too much at once and I started having one big contraction and my sons heart rate dropped really low. Everything was fine after they moved me around though. If you are getting an epidural I would say its not that bad, I was smiling and talking the whole time. Except for after I had him I tore and they were sewing me up and the epidural wore off. Good luck!!!!

well they will give you either a suppository or iv meds to start labour.later they will break the water with a plastic tool that looks like a crochet hook.the pain with induction however is bad as you go from no pain to hard fast contractions pretty quickly.

Being induced is not more painful, its just the contractions get stronger much faster than normal labour.
I was induced by:
A)Having my waters broken (did not work)
B)Pessary (did not work)
C)Finally getting a drip put in that started real fast.
None were particularly bad to endure.
Good luck!!
