I love to play video games, and computer games of all sorts. Final Fantasy, Kingdom of Hearts, Oblivion, Role-Play Games, MMORPG's. You name it. So whenever I hear a conversation between a bunch of boys about a game that I play, I join in, which always surprises them. They find it odd that I, a teenage girl, am a gamer.

Do I just not seem like the female gamer type, or are female gamers rare???

Much Love, Peace, and Rock N' Roll,
J!ll

I care about normal teenage girl stuff too, like make-up, and boys, and Gilmore Girls, just like my friends. We have a lot in common, except for gaming. They don't like to.

I've never been particullarly 'geeky' either. Atleast, I don't look like it. xD But I guess I really am a total video game geek, on the inside.

Because not that many girls play video games. It's 1 girl out of every 10 guys that plays video games. And when I say it like that I mean a straight out hardcore gamer. I'll be 21 in December and I've been a hardcore gamer for 10 years now. I think the main thing is it's especially rare when you are a total geek but dont look geeky. My hubby still tries to say I'm a bigger dork than him.

I don't think their rare, but they are out there. Being a long time gamer, we have two females in the two groups I play with. Both are married to another gamer; however, one doesn't always play and comes and goes depending on her "life". Those are just two examples; however, from my years of going to Conventions, I know there A LOT of female gamers out there. Most are into the LARP and Online Gaming (i.e. WoW or Sims) where there is interaction with real people.

I don't want to say females have no imagination, they do, but its very different from a male imagination. I've seen from experience that women tend to need something more tangible to work with that's based in reality which is something that LARP's and Online Games usually have. Whereas, with traditional Pen & Paper games or even Console Games don't have that. They might fuddle through them, but don't always truly enjoy it like the male personality.

There's more interaction in a LARP or Online Game for females to relate to; whereas, the male personality is more able to relate and socialize without as much physical interaction.

I would think that most girls haven't been introduced to video games and when they do, they follow the stereotype that games are really for guys, and avoid them, and I don't think games really are for guys because I'm a female gamer who plays games like Call of Duty, Oblivion, and any Star Wars game I can get my hands on and I am looking forward to Mass Effect from Bioware....

Female gamers aren't rare. Maybe they're just less likely to start a big group, and feel a little intimidated to join an all boys crew. Just jump in and other girl gamers will probably follow.

I'm a female gamer too. On occasion. Usually, I'm pretty blatant that I'm a girl (hence names like Lady____ and so forth), but a lot of girls game that are quiet about it. Lots of times, they think that the guys that play the game will give them special treatment or not take them seriously.

People are always surprised when they find out I'm a gamer, too. I'm an older gamer, having loved video games since the Atari. My favorite genres are RPGs and action/adventure. One of my boyfriend's friends was shocked when he found out I love God of War!

i dont think that they are rare, i just think that usually there are not a ton of girls who play a bunch of games that guys always like to play. it is most likely that most of the girl gamers, and i am not saying this is completely true, play different games than from what the guys play. hey who cares!

Well what i see is that most games are made with males in mind. They usually consist of killing, and other aspects that most girls don't enjoy. I'm not saying that you a tom-boy to play these games, it's just a bit uncommon. I have nothing against this, and I actually encourage it, so keep getting in those conversations!
Hope this help.

Well you typically don't see many girls playing games. Go into just about any game store. You'll see 95% guys working there, or being customers. The girls that are seen there are usually buying games for a guy.
