what ever plants that are native in your area. they grow there for a reason. they naturally live longer and are suitable for the environment. they also do a good part in removing polutants from the air and sometimes soil.

example: if you live in north-eastern america many different evergreens are perfect to have in your yard. they are beautiful and do their part in the environmet they can withstand colder weather and thinner air unlike the trees in the south such as palm trees which only thrive in warmer weather.
