Why are we changing our ways and catering to all these foreigners? This is why these foreigners are not assimilating into our culture or learning English!

Most people are mistaking your question about being racist. But this is about people assimilating into the country they are in, this is just another way of Democrats pandering to Hispanics and securing their votes. This isn't about race or Spanish, this is about a presidential debate being in a foreign language. They would never accept this in Mexico or Peru. We are in America, our language is English we shouldn't be selling out our language. I speak Spanish and I'm Hispanic, I'm against this debate. It shows what little Democrats think of us. So condescending!

If it bothers you, then push for an initiative for an official national language. Right now, we don't have one.

However...illegal immigrants don't have a vote. Only American citizens have a vote. Politically speaking, the Dems are making a smart move. They are making thier views easily accessible to a portion of AMERICAN CITIZENS that might not otherwise vote.

Once again, there is NO official language in America. We are, and always have been, a 'melting pot' of cultures. I don't find this sickening.

We could close the borders for a fraction of the cost that the Iraq war is costing us. Maybe you should ask why neither the Dems or the Pubs want the border closed. I could tell you, but you would just laugh and call me a 'conspiracy boy'. I wonder how long our country will continue to rot from the inside out before 'conspiracy boys' like me are taken seriously.

I find it sickening as well. I don't like it that the first question on the ATM screen is: English 1, Spanish 2.
I do understand why politicians are trying to appeal to Hispanic voters. They are a huge, and growing, portion of the population. However, if they are going to live here, I think that it is only good manners that they learn our language.
I've read recently that Mexican residents of the Southwest U.S. are considering trying to reclaim those areas for Mexico.

It's not surprising. With the overwhelming numbers of illegals in the country and the unsurprising number of them being hispanic and even more of the illegal population being uneducated and easily swayed, dems will be pandering to them for the vote.

We already know that there are numerous communities in the US where the hate groups like La Raza, Mecha and Aztlan hold political power no matter how small and illegally register non-citizens to vote. The dems know this and cater to it.

As for the large group of morons around here who want to call me racist and claim the Mexicans were here first and all your other rhetoric; remember where you came from. You are not indigenous nor are you a race. You are off-shoot spainards who devastated an indigenous population.

SO thumbs down over there >>>>>>>>>>>

It is offensive and insulting to me also. They are pandering. Did you notice at the end of the story Sen. Dodd had criticized the U.S. policy toward Cuba? Another communist among our esteemed group of elected officials.
What would have been much better before all this mass illegal immigration started was to make sure legal immigration rules were in place and that the people understood that the U.S. was not a candy store. Our leaders have failed us. Mexicans are overwhelmingly Catholic, so we could have had a friendlier working relationship in an ally against radical Islam.

I am not Hispanic but I do speak some Spanish. Why not? While I agree that we should not cater to them and need to require them to learn English if they expect to stay here we currently haven't done that and so have no choice but to speak to them in their own language. During the Reagan Administration we lifted the English proficiency requirement on citizenship. We can have a debate in Vietnamese or Tagalog too but they are not as prevalent as the Hispanics.

Anytime you WONDER why Republiicans are viewed by "the majority of the minorities" as the backwards, bigoted, xenophobic and down-right ignorant party...just read and re-read most of the comments that are posted here to your question...

Democrats don't have to make a bunch of grand promises...They just need to shut up and let you jerks talk, and run off another group of potential voters with your RABID RACIST PARANOIA. Thus far your "DIVIDE AND CONQUER" strategy hasn't hurt you too much, but the success of that mean-spirited campaign is in it's dying throes. It's only a matter of time.

Yep, and look who is attending the debate. Dont' see Americans there, just Democrats. Nice.
There is nothing wrong with speaking spamish in countries that have their national language spanish. The USA is an English speaking country, has been forever. But since Dems want to break the unions and keep everybody equally poor they are catering to the 20 million mexicans living in the USA illegally, because they need to cater to everybody they can to get votes, rather than cater to the best interests of the USA.

I suppose if it was 20 million Nazis the Dems would be attending the Nazi debate. Tell me they wouldn't, 20 m is a lot of votes!

This is what you find sickening??? What is the matter with you???

We are spending 2 billion dollars a week in Iraq and brave US troops are getting killed and many more injured and a Spanish language debate is what makes you sick???

You clearly have no grasp of reality.

We are clearly being used for some reason, I am not sure what but our candidates do and they should tell us who is pulling the strings and what we have to do to defeat them not cater to them.
