hey I will gladly help you on this one.
for d ≤ 1 = C (d) = 2 x dollars in which x = the first mile or less
for d > 1 = C (d) = 2 (x) + .25 y in which y = number of miles after the first mile or less
for a 40 mile ride = 2 + .25 (39) = 11.75 dollars
