As you've formatted and reinstalled, the files are 99% certainly gone.
You could try "recover my files" and run a format recovery, but chances of getting much back are slim.
better to recover from your backup discs you made of important files.
You DID keep important files backed up on external drives didn't you ? Or on CD/DVD ?

yes, all is not lost. you can forensically recover them. there are programs you can download and look at the hard drive. this can not be the active drive but a slaved drive. if you see the files you are missing, then you can download the full-version for about $ 50.00 usd and recover them

you have a very small chance of getting them back. when i reformat, i delete everything except for the important things and then install over the windows folder and just go back and delete the things i missed

best way to recover files is to go to tool shed and make a list of stolen files from shed. the ones from the computer are lost and color yourself a victim for the loss of data. beeter luck getting recovery from tool shed for files or rasps
