OK... That cross is a 1st Communion Cross, so I think it's safe to assume it's for a Catholic 1st Communion.

The pewter medallion on the cross has two crossed sheaves of wheat under a cluster of grapes with grape leaves.

The crossed sheaves of wheat are symbolic of the bread given at communion, and the grape cluster is symbolic of the wine that is blessed and used in communion. So they are symbolic of going to communion. This makes the cross specifically symbolic of your 1st communion celebration and it's not appropriate to give for other purposes or reasons. In other cases, you'd pick a different cross.

It seems to be two sheaves of corn and a bunch of grapes, thus symbolising the bread and wine of the Eucharist.

probably has something to do with the last super. Breaking bread and drinking wine. The yeast makes bread and grapes make wine.
