NO. Don't buy any vehicle without a title. It is the only proof that the seller owns the bike. It could be stolen or have a lien on it.

He is being a dic. Not the greatest situation to be in. Show no emotional break-down here, keep every scrap of paper you got regarding the sale of the bike. Let the courts decide. It will be what it will be. It is unfortunate he did not know about your Big friends (I am seeking blood now - but that is just me) Normally it would work this way, you want something from me-you pay completely for it and then you get the title, key and the bike. He is not a financial institution so it would not be on payments. So you kind of left him hanging as he still owed $1000 on the bank loan. So, i guess he is PO with you because the whole idea of selling the bike was to pay off the $1500 bank loan.. Deal is done and you are out of each others life. His or his wife's name is irrelevant-still the same family. But it is "his WIFE" that has ownership of the title, not him. So you should be dealing with the wife only as he has no say. Pretty sure a judge is gonna see it that way.

Most places the title is a proof of
ownership like the deed to a house.
Be very careful of a bike with no title.
Could be stolen. WILL be hard to register.
Some places bikes were not titled till recently.
If he owns the bike, he should be able to get
a title before selling it.

Unless they are the legal owner and have simply misplaced the title...NO. Never buy a vehicle without the title. In the case of a lost title, you can have the owner go to the DMV and get an affadavit of lost title so the vehicle can be sold and transferred legally.

u cant get plates in ur name without the title. the owner needs to file for a replacement title at the dmv, and to do that, they need the vin # off the bike. i would not buy a bike without title in hand. i'd tell him, the sooner u get the replacement title, the quicker u get my cash. the title says who is the legal owner of the bike.

NEVER buy a bike without a title.
a bill of sale works for parts if you want a construction title, until you have a bike built, but you need the original title for main parts, like the frame, in order to title the bike yourself.

I don't know about currently, but not that many years ago, non-street legal dirt bikes didn't have a title. So if it's an old dirt bike that doesn't have lights, brake lights, etc, then it never did have one. Otherwise, STEER CLEAR!

the title is a piece of paper that delares ownersip.
If the current owner can't locate the title, Have that owner file for a lost title.
That is if they actually do own it, otherwise it may be stolen.
