Save everyone time by putting the leaflets straight into the recycle bin at work ... this also saves the cost of postage ..

To be serious ? Sending Junk mail is damaging to your Company "image" .. I for one realy HATE wasting my time sorting Junk Mail ..

1) Junk Mail addressed 'To the Householder' goes straight into the bin unopened. This is the least time wasting option. So please address all Junk mail 'To the Householder'.

2) Personalised Junk Mail that can be identified from the Envelope (eg. Readers Digest "National Compitition Draw Winner") goes straight into the shredder. So please mark the envelope "Unsolicitated Junk Mail"

3) If I'm tricked into opening personalised Junk Mail, I look for the Reply Paid envelope and stuff all the paper into that along with msg. "remove my name from your database" .. and I make a mental note NEVER to deal with that Company EVER.

PS How do you live with yourself ?

Direct mail is still one of the best marketing tools available but it has to be done well to be successful/profitable.

Don't buy lists - they're usually out of date.

If you're in the business to consumer market check the Mailing Preference Service before you send out direct mail. It's an offence to send to people who've registered with it. (The same applies to telesales - check TPS and be aware that businesses are also protected by TPS registration)

On the positive side: target your clients very closely and do your homework before you mail them. For example, a company we work with was given a list of art galleries to contact about picture hanging systems. They checked the list to find names and at the same time discovered that two of the galleries were on-line so wouldn't be interested in their product anyway.

Address your mailing to the appropriate, named person. If you care enough about your product and want the prospect to become a client, show that you've taken time to find out who they are.

The other important point is make your mailing relevant to the addressee. At the initial stage do they want to know that you've been in business for x years, you take great pride in your quality of service? If you want to grab their attention, talk about what a relationship with your company will do for them. That's all they care about - WIIFM.

There's lots more that I could say on the subject but I won't.

The Direct Marketing Association is very useful

particular it does have a destiny. human beings like receiving a actual letter addressed to them in my opinion. unsolicited mail has developed via the years from an paintings right into a technological know-how. entrepreneurs can anticipate, with precision, the probably reaction fee they gets from unsolicited mail. information superhighway advertising has no longer yet reached this element. unsolicited mail will proceed to conform, besides the reality that throughout time it may desire to end to be the dominant form of direct advertising.
