What European nation claimed the land to the west and north of the English colonies?

I am not sure about this one, something is telling me North America or England...honestly, I am stumped.

Thank you to all who respond.

France, they sold us what they had west in 1803 (Louisianna Purchase) and still has a presence in the north (Canada).

Wow are you the girl from the beauty pageant? what is Mario Lopez really like

Why would England claim the land north and west of it's own colonies? Would that not just make that land part of the colonies?

North America is not a COUNTRY it is a Continent

Folks by giving Miss North Carolina here the answer (which is yes France, in the form of Canada and the Louisiana Territory...though if we go far enough west Spain must also be listed) you are not helping her.

France.

That's why in Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase from Napoleon. That's why New Orleans and Louisiana have such high concentrations of French heritage. That is why Quebec is a French speaking province.

Good luck on your homework!
