God, I am so sorry I used capital letters and offeneded you! That was a mistake. The source I heard it on was ITV news, Sunday 9th September when they returned home. I was not implying he wanted to use the money for legal help I was stating what he said and I believe anyone can see what he meant surely. he was saying there is a huge fund there and they cannot touch it for legal help. of course I didnt expect him to say he was going to get bladdered I was, as was everyone else in the room, shocked that he could even think people had donated it for that reason. As far I was concerned it was to help find Maddie. And I do believe it was a question I asked by the way.

LONDONER,
that IS exactly what he is implying!
You can see it for yourself here.

But he confessed he is frustrated they are not allowed to use any of the £800,000 Madeleine Fund— boosted by celebrity appeals including Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and soccer star David Beckham—to pay their mounting legal bills.

"It seems like a disaster that we've got this huge donated fund and now we're not allowed to use it for legal costs because we're under suspicion," said Gerry.

I read about that earlier today.
Quote from Gerry; "It seems like a disaster that we've got this huge donated fund and now we're not allowed to use it for legal costs because we're under suspicion," said Gerry.
"I never really imagined we'd be in this situation.

Why does it now seem like a disaster that he is not allowed to spend the fund? The fund was set up to find Madeleine, not to pay for Gerrys legal fees. Makes me wonder what the real reason for the fund was. As far as I can see none of the money has ever been used to help find Madeleine. Looks like Gerry has being holding onto the fund money until he needs to use it to save his own skin.

The most disturbing element is that two million dollars has been raised to find this one child. My question is, "Why?" What makes her any more special than all the other young children who are abducted, raped and murdered around the world?
Did celebrities contribute because Maddie's parents were doctors? Wealthy? Socialites?
I agree: the fund should not be used for the McCanns' legal fees; the funds should be put into a trust or special foundation and used to help ALL victims of child abuse and neglect. Why two million dollars should be used for just one victim is appalling - and immoral.
I hope the family does the right thing and use this money to establish an international fund that will come to the aid of all families who suffer such tragedy: whether they're rich or poor, black or white, unknown or celebrated, unskilled or professional. -RKO- 09/09/07

Why should they use the money for legal fees? That money was donated by the public, and I'm sure most of the people who paid money into it could only dream of Kate and Gerry's income or general wealth. They have their own money, they should not be using money which was intended to find their daughter to pay for lawyers!

I'm glad. The fund money was not used to help any other suspects legal fees, nor should it be used for theirs.
The poor deluded fools who paid money into it believed it was going to help Madeline, not the parents who are suspected of killing her.

No I am not surprised. That man eats. sleeps and breathes money. It is all he thinks about and for someone who already makes a packet I find that really odd.

Now he wants us to pay for his neglect. What a complete.... a****wipe.

WHat do you mean - they can't use it for legal help to assist them in proving they are not to blame ?

Isnt the fund just to hep find Madeline ?

I think the fund should be to help find Madeline - nothing else.
