Ok,So I just got a venus flrytrap and I've wanted one for so long but am not 100% sure on how to take care of it.It came from walmart and is in a lil itty bitty pot and there are a good 15-20 traps. It came inside a plastic tube with a lid.It says to keep very moisturized. What I am most wondering about is,do you only feed the trap flys or can you feed it other bugs? Also where should I keep the plant, inside or in and if in..where to keep the moisture in? Also since it is so small and in a itty pot..can I repot in a bigger pot? How? Thankz guys..I've always relied on you guys to help me and Im really hoping you can help me here. :-)

Okay, a few very important things you need to know about VFTs.
1. Take is out of it's container and repot it in a porous pot like Terra cotta in a 50/50 mix of peat moss and perlite.
2. Never fertilize it because even the smallest amount will kill it.
3. They thrive best in full sun so put it out side in full sun.
4. VFTs are bog plants and must stay moist all the time. Set the pot in a saucer or larger pot containing about 3 inches of water. If you keep it outside check it daily to make sure the saucer never gets dry.
5. Branches of the VFT will occasionally die, but don't worry they will continue to grow new ones.
6. VFTs need to experience winter to perform well the following spring so if you live in an area that does not experience extended freezes then they can be left outside for the winter. However, if your temps drop lower then 20 degrees then you can move it into an unheated garage or garden shed. Also, when your VFT goes into hibernation it will look as though it has died. It will come back in spring. I've thrown away at least three plants thinking they died. Now I know better.

Here are some sites that will help you with just about anything you can think of regarding VFTs. These sites have been a great help to me.

In case you are interested in growing your VFT in a terrarium:

Oh, yea, one more thing. If you keep your VFT outside then you won't need to worry about feeding it. It will catch all the buggies it needs to survive. If you keep it in a terrarium then you may have to feed it flies, fruit flies, or pieces of crickets. What ever you do, don't force feed it and DO NOT feed it meat of any kind. Although it is called a carnivours plant it is really and insectivorous plant.

Good Luck

A terranium is the best way to keep a Venus Fly Trap. If not kept in a terranium then you should keep the pot in a saucer or pie tin which has water in it, and rocks. the pot should not be submerged in the water, but the plant needs a source of moisture.
Go to a pet store and get krickets, a trap needs 2-3 meals a month.
Traps are sensive to chemicals. If using tap water let the water sit for 1-2 days for the chlorine to dissipate. Distilled or rain water is best.
Yes you can repot it. Just makes for a bigger plant.

alright well, its an outdoor plant cuz its main diet is flies. it can eat other bugs like spiders and things but, thats mainly it. also, for moisture water it but, if u live in florida, during the hot days theres plenty of humidity so dont overwater.
