I've heard of that phenomenon. All i can say is that someone like that could be very useful camping on one of those cold rainy nights when the fire can't get started. "Hey Sammy, put your finger on the loggs".

A whole section of the book referenced below is taken to cover Spontaneous Combustion. I'll first quote from the introduction.

Cases of Spontaneous Human Combustion began to appear in medical reports as far back as the 17th century, and by the 20th century the literature abounded in detailed accounts of inexplicable human incineration. Over a span of four centuries more than 200 incidents have been reported.

In 1952 Mrs. Mary Reeser was reduced to ashes in her undamaged apartment. This was the first case where modern scientific forensics were used and the the police were the first to enter the apartment, then the forensics people. After a year of testing that included the FBI labs, there was no "logical for cause of death" found. One official said, Jokingly, "If this was the 16th century I would be howling WitchCraft and Black Magick."

That has been an intersting subject, never been witnessed and when the scene is found certain parts of the walls is found burnt and the entire body is complete ash about the knees, so I find it very facinating too
