I was just wondering if landlords in Chicago are required to have some kind of certification/license that proves they are the landlord of there specific unit(s)? Is it stated in any ordinance anywhere, if so where?

No, there isn't, however, the owner of a property is listed in public records, so you can always find that information. One may be a landlord, but have someone else manage the property.
