One of our area church youth groups used to have one of these for several years. Here are some of the ideas that they used.

They had jack-o-lanterns guiding the pathways.
They set up hallways (using tarps and wooden walls) where people had to walk through, and had someone jump out at them.

They set up ropes to guide people thorugh the trails (you followed the rope from one spot to the other).

They had someone buried in the dirt looking like they were coming out of the grave.

They had the requisite corpse in a coffin who would jump out at you.

One thing they did was to make one of the "halls" slimy.

But the rule they had is, whatever they set up, they were responsible to clean up afterwards. So, don't make any mess that you cannot completely clean up. Otherwise, the people that are providing the site may not allow you to use it ever again.

I love Halloween. What you can do, is to get people to work the haunted trail. Do it at night, and have flashlights light the trail. Have cob webs hanging in one area, and get a radio. On the radio, play a Halloween sound effect CD. I am sure you can buy them at holiday stores, Wal*Mart, or even at Target. Play the CD loud. Have the haunted trail workers, spreaded out throughtout the trail. Have a couple of them dress up as ghosts, and have them in one area. Several feet away, have a couple workers dress up as zombies. Hang bats, and bloody manicans, from trees or roofs.

You can have someone dress in dark clothes, and control a hanging manican form a tree. Get a string and that person can shake the hanging manican from the tree. The people walking the haunted trail, will see the hanging manican and be frightened of it.
You can contact me via Yahoo Answers for further advice. Goodluck.

At the hunted house i went to last year in one section they have the lights blinking really fast where you cant really see anything but at the same time there is this guy dressed like michael myers coming closer and closer to you it was very creppy then there was this candy bowl were when u tried to get candy this hand came out and grapped you from the bowl... smoke is a good idea to make it really foggy also a lot of scary characters walking around really slow...making it
really cold is good too Endless hallways with a scary guy standing at the end with a knife is good also at the end of another hallway have a guy goming out of the ground like hes coming from a grave these are all thing that were at the hunted house i went to last year it was very scary

Also before you have them go in the hunted house have this big tall guy dressed as the chainsaw massacre man leather face walking around with a realistic chainsaw that makes a really loud nose and makes smoke that was a HIT last year everyone was really running away from the guy

Halloween is like my favorite holiday..

Cool your planning a haunted house lemme think

Your gonna need a certain amout of people depending on the size of your house you want them to be scared in different periods of time so they can look at your scary set up goes to party city and get tons of fog machines masks and make sure to get something from teh actual outdoors to make it feel real! you'll need scary music and lots of it that really brings up the fear factor

remember your ideas are the ones that count so brainstorm up some grea ideas

Hope you have a great October and scary halloween!

Since its a haunted forest send groups out onto one of the trails with a flashlight. Have a backstory of a murder in the woods. Have the murderer stalk the people through the trail. You could have the ghost from the murder by setting up speakers that play creepy whispers.

Haunted Forest, eh?
I have a great idea, & if the forest contains a lake or a pond somewhere it will work all the better!

How about starting a 'party' earlier on, nothing scary at first.
Then have 2 people (preplanned) get themselves lost in the forest (you can tell people they went back for some more chips or something, make up what you like). Make sure this is about close to sunset, when it is about to get dark.

While they are gone, have those 2 people set up some candles (2 at once) in the middle of a rugged path or something, perhaps at a place all of you know. Then have them lay & light another candle every 100 ft or so apart, so they are not visible immediatly. Have the candles lead to a lake or pond. If there isn't one, try to find a large open clearing with few trees. Have them bring blankets, rasperries (or any type of red berry with alot of juice, or realistic red paint) & just lay there rolled up in the blanket as if dead. Have more candles all around them, ''blood'' on their faces & blankets, & just laying eerily still. Coffin still. But no dramatic poses. Just laying down.

Have an adult or really tell person dress like a madman murderer. Army fatigues or a Killjoy outfit works great. If you don't have anything liek that, use your imagination. More about this person later.

After its beggining to get dark, pretend to be looking around for those 1st two people, as if just realizing they hadn't come back yet. Talk to other people who are not in on the scam & act a little worried. Once everyone realizes those two haven't come back yet, you know its time to go looking for them.

Bring flashlights, but don't light them. Act as if the battery suddenly went dead (put dead batteris imdmetiatly in, but keep a few fresh ones in your pocket).

Start going with everyone on the candle path the others have set up. On the way, act like you heard things in the bushes & every so often scream "Something moved!!" Another good touch is to have someone else fall on purpose & have them act like something grabbed them & pulled them down.

If everything goes well, some of your group should be in a close state of panic after the 1st or 2nd set of candles.

Once you get to the lake/pond/clearing & see the ''bodies'' with the candles all aroudn them, act genuianly surprised. Try to even cry a bit. But not too much. Once everyone has gotten close enough, have the adult/tall person mentioned before jump out like a maniac & grab one of the smallest & most delicate of the group. Let him hold a fake knife to his/her throat or something.

After a few minutes of this, all of you in on the scam can burst out laughing. The dead ones too.

A helpful tip to all this is that you can send a few people (who know about all this) to look for the missing ones. They can drop a few small firecrackers that sound like bullets while you're all walking, or even come running out of nowhere saying they saw him kill them.

Trust me, it works like a CHARM. I helped with this stunt a few times for camp.

Have some people dress in camo. That always scares people. Fog machines are good. You could put a lot of skeletons around the place and smear fake blood on the trees. Fake body parts are good too. Maybe you could put one section with a strobe light.

Get one candle and light it. Then sit in a big circle and tell the creepiest ghost stories you can think of. When you're at the scariest part of your story, lean over and blow the candle out.

Or, you could always try a game where people are blindfolded and then you pass around cold spaghetti, meatballs, etc. That is always a good gross-out one.
