I'd wait for the reviews of both, and then go in for it.
Personally, I'm a PES man. I find the game play is better than FIFA, although some of the graphics are a little poor and the game does have its flaws. Interesting that the pro-FIFA posts on here are always less informed and defensive than the PES ones.
You can always download a patch from the 'net for PES, lots of those using the forums do this, they include things like the right kits, names, squads, etc.

well, i have argued about this topic with my friends for many years but i think on xbox 360 fifa 08 is better but on ps2 pes 2008 could be better but not by much. Pes rarely change things each year.

Pro Evo beats fifa 10 times out of ten, if it's realism and game play you want pro evo wins hands down, and as I've said many times it's just to darn easy to score in any previous fifa game so I'd say fifa 08 will be no different, fifa may look better and have star appeal but at the end of the day it's down to personal chioce, so i say rent them both when they come out and see which one you like best, cheers.

I've always preferred PES.
I don't think UTD is one of the licensed EPL sides on PES this year ( i hear it's Newcastle & Spurs.), so you'd need to do some tinkering to set them right.
