I am on a fixed income and will not be getting any more money until the begining of next month, I have paid all my bills for this month except for the electric bill, I have the money for that bill but it is also the only money I have for the rest of the month and I have other things to get, all summer they have been working on the powerlines on the block and have shut off the power to the block for a day or 2 a number of times this summer so I have already experienced not having electricity so I know I can handle it, however the last time my electric got shut off a few years ago cause I could'nt pay it my parents found out and went and paid it but then treated me like I was an iresponsible baby who could'nt take care of herself, they have enough money each month to pay every bill on time, they don't understand that people on a fixed income sometimes have to sacrafice something for something else, anyways what would you do?

Barry offshore, I thought about the fridge thing, really I have a few slices of cheese, some of the chicken I bought yesterday and the rest is condiments, we pretty much eat boxed or canned foods.

Arthur W doesn't have a clue of what it is like to be poor and I think his answer was very mean.

I think you are being very responsible trying to decide what is the best plan. I know you need electricity, but you need food and other things too. Sometimes you can contact the power company and make payment arrangements, sometimes they won't let you. The best I can tell you is this, without electricity, the food in your fridge will spoil, and that is NOT a good thing. I suggest that you talk to your parents or your pastor. Let them know that you are trying very hard, but on a fixed income it is just very hard.

Good luck to you... from someone who has been there.

(Damn! I wish I could help you, but I don't have it either)

Call the electric company and either make a payment arrangement or ask if they have any programs that can help pay for it I livae in Oregon and they have several programs for low income people that will pay your bill once or twice a year (up to $500 or something) if you need it. Here they have churches or St. Vincent De Paul that help just look around and see what you can do.

Maybe take some part time job somewhere, or sell something that has value. I won't say cut back, because that doesn't make sense on a fixed income. But you have to do something more each month so you don't find yourself in this position again. How about babysitting for people in your off hours. Say for a nurse who works nights?

Be responsible and contact the electric company and explain your situation to them. They are usually willing to work with you as turning off and on power costs them so they would rather work with you, but you do have to make the first move
