I have a 14 year old son who is a catcher for his baseball team. the problem is he refuses to wear a jockstrap for protection of "the goods" Its a very uncomfortable topic to talk to him about and theres no father figure around. how do I go about dealing with the issue. He keeps on saying that it won't hurt if he gets hit.

Play the biggest trump card you have...."Son, I signed a permission slip for you to play. Wear the cup or see me tear that permission slip to shreds." You have this ultimatum for four more years. Use it.

I think it should come from you and you should be straight with him..just tell him why its important and make sure you choose a good time to talk to him beacuse at 14, he'll find it embarrassing!..that way, he knows he can come to you when he has other issues :) goodluck!

Well if he says he's OK then you should trust him, i mean who would know better right? My brother who is 15 refuses to wear one too.

You should have his coach talk to him about it, I'm surprised his coach hasn't said anything. You do want little grandkids someday I'm sure.

Yeah -- tell his coach. They may be *required* to wear one. The coach should talk to him.
