Recently my laptop (hp) has been acting strange. When i turn it on it says "Operating System Not Found". So i have to keep turning it on and off until it finally lets me on. Also my laptop is getting very hot, almost to burning my hand.

I am posting this from my messed up laptop so i dont think it is completely broken. I bought it 10 months ago so its barely a year old

Usually an "operating system not found" message indicates a bad hard drive - one that is nearly dead if not dead. If you can get it to work again copy all data files you wish to keep elsewhere. Given the young age of the lap top, it may be corrupted operating system files. I would attempt to run the recovery operation. Get your recovery disc and driver disc and go through the recovery operation and see if this solves the problem If it does not help, replace the hard drive.

I would check w HP first to see if they will provide a free replacement hard drive under warrenty.

Your excessive heat may also indicate that some system protection (fan running, etc) is not going on when it should so you need to address this promptly.

Operating system not found is normally a boot sector related problem.

Take the Windows cd and boot from it, choose repair, when the screen comes up choose the drive.

The command prompt screen is now open

1. Type fixmbr and press enter and answer yes if it ask a question.

2, Type fixboot and press enter and answer yes if it ask a question.

Now type exit and press enter, the computer will reboot, make sure the windows cd is not in the drive.

If it is random error that it sometime finds Operating system and other time not and your laptop gets hot........I think your cooling fans has stop working causing processor to heat up. This causes processor to malfunction and causing this random error so you shut down the system other wise it can damage the processor or melt it down.

Since it is less than year old, use your HP warranty and get it repaired from them.

Enter your BIOS settings and :
"Load Optimal Settings"
:Save and Exit"
or
"Load Performance Settings"
"Save and Exit"
Get a can of compressed air and blow out all openings to
the computer.spray fan ports etc.
Preferably outside as this can get quite messy.
