We need not indulge in affairs not directly connected to the goal of our life! In an earthly sojourn of 70 to 80 years... where is the time for indulgence! No human being can ever retard our efforts in following our goal of life. Temporarily... yes, some people can affect our working but not for long! We must always shun such people and remain away from them.
Even if they are our parents, teachers, relatives or friends... whoever prevents us from achieving our goals in life must always be shunned! Always remember... we have only one life to live! Who knows what we shall be in the next manifestation... why not live the present life to its best! Having a fixed goal in life is journey half covered.
The balance journey is best covered by keeping all eggs in one basket and pursuing the goal of life with the bulldog determination of Mr. Winston Churchill! Pursuing something that is dear to our heart... indulging in which we lose track of time... it is such goals that make Bill Gates out of school failures!
Life is a journey... not a destination! As an independent soul atman we retain our right to indulge in whatever that pleases us. The moment we stop thinking of people... who prevent us from following the goal of our life... we become the master of our destiny! Keeping such people at bay is not difficult although sometimes it may seem to be!
Practicing patience, persistence and perseverance are the most essential ingredients in the journey of life. Forgiveness also must be practiced at its best! It is only when we curse such people that their working affects us! By forgiving such people... we are eliminating their thoughts from our thinking permanently! What more could we desire out of life! European Liberals in the 1800's were not modern day liberals (socialists). Jefferson was a Liberal in his day. Look into the writings of John Locke for a good idea on the views of 18th and 19th century European Liberals. In a nutshell, it was the belief that you could do anything you wanted, provided it did not harm another person. Their views on Government were very minimalist - small Gov't, with the main goal being to protect it's citizens from force and fraud. As for how their goals were accomplished, I'm afraid I can't help you. I am an American history nut, and I hate to say it, but care little about European history. However (I'm assuming this is for a class) my information hopefully helps you, as you can match up those ideas with events in 19th Century Europe, and hopefully get your answer.

I believe we should treat everyone with kindness and respect even if they do not behave in the same manor. The truth will eventually come out. We each have power and ability to reach our goals and if something or someone seems to be preventing this then we can either look for a different way or reevaluate our goals.

The way I see it, you do what you can to achieve those goals to the best of your ability. And don't pay any mind to those perpetually pesimistic people. I know because I've been there. And everyone above me gets a thumbs up from me for their answers.

Hi!
Let them become the catalysts that catapult you further towards your goals. Certainly don't allow their negativity to deter you. If you do that, it is you and not they who stop you reaching onwards and upwards.
Be courteous to those around you and give them dignity - but let none other than yourself define your reality, though you may chose to let others inform it by their love, wisdom and shared experience.
Good wishes.

Nod and smile, then carry on doing what you need to do anyway. Few people enjoy change in another person. Particularly when changes affect them adversely.
So just nod and smile then carry on doing what you are doing.

You don't let them. But the sneaky ones that do and succeed.I learn from it, know what their up to and try to avoid the people involved or try to be very wise when they are around .Try to keep it from happening again. You chalk it up and try ,try again until you reach that goal. It's hard sometimes when people are influencing your brain waves inplanting thoughts and things.
