It can be used but i think... but the sugar cube might not be recovered neatly... the volume of course would be the same... unless you mix it... because if you mixed it.. just as Gervald F said.. the air inside the cube will be lost... at same time some unequal amount of air from the surroundings will also be dissolved as you mix...

a better way to get it's volume, maybe is to get it's dimensions and find for the volume.. remember that the volume for a cube is V=s^3; s is the length of one side

Because it will dissolve! And the volume of the sugar molecules may well be less than the volume of the original sugar cube, which had air spaces.
