When a US conservative lists the principles in which he/she believes, the list reads almost harmless.
When you asks how he/she believes the USA should act in the particular situations most prominently discussed by the American involved in politics, the answers are repugnant, aggressive and imperialistic, they are also for regressive taxes and usually opposed to all the movements in the USA, in the 20th century that favor civil rights and fairness for the society as a whole..

A fairly strict interpretation of the Constitution including an absolute belief in the liberties contained in the Bill of Rights.

Fiscal responsibility.

The superiority of the rights of the individual above the powers granted the government, which has no "rights."

That the ability of the individual to follow his/her own 'life plan,' on an even 'playing field' without interference from the government, is that individuals best chance to advance and prosper.

That our sovereignty must be absolute.

That the prime beneficiaries of any treaty or agreement should be the American people.

That "national security" means exactly what it says, not adventurism or empire building.

That personal privacy and "due process" are, indeed, rights.

That the government has absolutely no business in our bedrooms, interfering in medical decisions, family matters (spousal rights, parental rights, etc.) or the definition of relationships.

That "The People" have a right to defend themselves against the actions of an oppressive government.

That there is a clearly defined seperation of church and state.

Understand, these are true Conservative principles held by true Conservatives. Not at all similar, in any way, to the anti-American/anti-Patriotic neo-cons who have infected our government and society disguised as "Conservatives."

From What I see most conservatives believe in Smaller Government, Limiting Individuals Rights, Corporate Welfare & Spreading Democracy at the Barrel of a Gun.

The average Liberal believes in Bigger Government & more goverment control so we don't do anything ourselves.

Its like choosing Between Hitler's son(Conservative) or Stalin's son(liberal) Neither one is as bad as the father but they look alot like them.

Their wallets and pocket-books, though they will claim they have morals, they are also the ones that bomb abortion clinics with people in them.
That tell us we should have the children of rapists, because it's wrong to end any life. I say that if they really read the bible, when Adam was created, he was a lifeless form, until God breathed the breath of life into him.
They also tell us that they believe in freedom of speech, though the moment you cross a certain line, they'll have the cross-hairs of their rifle scopes zeroed in on your head.
They tell us that they are Christians, yet where is their mercy or forgiveness, oh, it's reserved for their family only, not for the family of man.
Lastly, they are the ones that elected Bush and his lackeys, that started this war, gave rise to the present gasoline prices, that allow the police of today, to use the exact same practices that we fought against Germany for in WWII

I cant speak for all conservatives, but the circle of friends I have are all Fiscally responsible, and morally conscious. If you have no morals and can't manage your money, then being a conservative is probably not the road that you want to travel. If you are open minded and a free spender, the liberals have a home sweet home just waiting for you.

This is a topic of considerable debate.

Generally, a true conservative believes in limited central government, the rights guaranteed by the federal constitution, the political power of the states, and are generally against policies and practices which they perceive as socialist in origin. They also tend to identify closely with Christian religious principles, and are often "pro-life."

In generally, US conservatives can be correlated with so-called right-wing politics.

Breaking Through the Liberal Cocoon...
Explaining What Makes America Great and Why We Must Protect It

How, in less than 250 years, has the American population built the most prosperous, the most powerful, the most advanced civilization ever?" The Europeans have been around thousands of years longer than we have -- the Asians much longer than that -- and yet we run rings around every one of them, and everybody else, too. It's not even close. It's not a contest in any way that you want to measure. "So how can it be," I asked them, "that less than 300 million Americans can rule the world as it never has been ruled before, in less than 250 years of existence? Have you ever really stopped to ask yourself this question

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men... If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
