I am planning to learn Flash/Actionscript also some asp.net. I was told to forget about java because there is 5 million programmers to compete with. Do you guys think Flash & asp.net are good bets and that the demand is still great? I will hate to learn a technology and find out there are too many people applying or looking for a job for that same technology. Thx.

Adobe (Macromedia) Flash is without doubt a viable skill set. Microsoft .NET and Microsoft ASP.NET is solid and growing in popularity. I'd also learn the fundamental administrative skills for Microsoft Windows. Also, Linux continues to be a popular choice for web development.

I would not base my choices on what other people are doing. You will have rich job prospects if you are dedicated and perform your work with care. The field needs talented people.

I can't speak for other apps, but if you're good at it, flash actionscript pays very very well.
