it just depends on the giftee. some people would rather have money than get something they don't want.

i prefer to give money, so they can buy what they like. i use to give gift cards but that was kinda a bummer if it's for a store they don't even shop at.

Depends on the occasion and who you're giving it to (most little kids would rather have a present than cash) but usually it's fine.
