With analogue TV as the signal weakens the picture gradually gets snowier until no longer watchable. With digital there is a sudden point at which the signal is too weak to be usable. This is called the edge of the cliff effect. Even with a good outdoor aerial you may not get all Freeview channels because until the analogue is switched off, some freeview channel groups are being transmitted out- of -band and need a wideband aerial to receive them. If you are trying to get Freeview you will need a Wideband High Gain aerial to receive signals.

A normal outdoor aerial will not work
