I thought it was a Roy Rogers song.
"There's thunder and lightning, and" - something else about herding cattle during a rain storm. I had that song on a record when I was about six years old. (My sisters hated it)

It's lightning.

Lighting refers to what lights up a place.

Lightening would be what Michael Jackson did to his skin color.
