Maby there never late, maby they are always on time, see. think of it this way, your going to a party and you dont wanna be late, your on a role and out of know where theres a red light, your frustrated , fidgit about in your seat and you wanna get ther...and fast! BUT now, take that feeling and put it in the womans shoes. her husbends not driving, take that into account, but he could have insisted on doing something before they left that caused them to be late, have her go 'well if you hadn't done --------' or something like that, then that will take up a few lines, have his response to that, then have the car go, its all about sending, reciving , reaction, imagination when writing, put yourself in the charaters shoes and THINK about what there thinking.

The husband and wife are arguing and don't love each other anymore, but they both don't want to divorce (mostly because of their friend's and family's opinions). They also won't admit they aren't happy. The story could follow the fights escalating and being fought over petty little things and end with them finally accepting that they need to move on and get a divorce.

(she looked at her husband accusingly)----"Accusingly" implies that she totally blames her husband for causing them to be late. Perhaps it was somewhere that he really didn't want to go. It could be the opera, a ballet, a formal party, a party for her boss where the husband doesn't know anyone, or dinner with her parents.

It was the husbands fault because he was playing video games and wouldn't get ready on time. Then they are even later because they get in a car accident because they are fighting and end up in the hospital.

Use your imagination, honey. Maybe she's on the way to the hospital to have a baby...take the story from there... maybe baby gets born in cab.
Or, maybe they are on their way to be honored at some dinner, and don't make it...but laugh about it anyway.
