I've heard that insomniacs don't sleep because they are always worrying about the people that post random questions in the wrong section of Y!A. Luckily, there are no insomniac fish, so, there's your answer regarding this thread...

Insomniacs are generally very nervous, anxious people that have too much on their mind and have difficulty "shutting down" for the night.

melatonin. Valerian. No caffeine two hrs before bed. Warm milk. Reading. No tv or computer, I suggest a cover cloth over them after 9-10-11-12 whenever you retire. It's a medical fact that they are far to active for your brain if you are trying to sleep. I usually do not use mine between 9 pm-8 am unless absolutely necessary. Reading puts you out in a heartbeat-where for me anyway try it I read in bed I'm out like before I finish 3 pages sometimes! Play soft music. People with insomnia has cognitive waking disturbances that carry into sleep. Add a sufficient amount of exercise, social contact, and intellectual stimulation and see if that does not help.

I take it you asked this question in this section because it pertains to you, a fish owner ... .

If this is the case, then try to figure out what's bothering you, maybe it's one of these topics that's on your mind:
> My fancy goldfish is not eating ... why?
> My Oranda is swimming in spirals, why is that?
> My pet Molly is attacking all the other fish in the tank, what can I do to prevent her from doing that?

You see, any of these topics may be intruding on your subconscious mind and preventing you from getting a proper night's rest, let alone any quality sleep time.

Be calm, my friend, the community at Yahoo! Answers is prepared to help with any troubles you may have, you just have to direct it to the right people!

Take care & hope you get a good night's rest.

fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression, bipolar disorder, emotional or mental tension, work problems, financial stress, unsatisfactory sex life and sometimes occurs for no apparent reason.

they all make for an over active mind and can delay tiredness as well as making people extremely tired, but unable to close their eyes. I suffered from transient insomnia after my father died in 1999, and it took about 3 weeks before I could get any more than 20 minutes kip at any one time. The 'cure' was coming out of the shock phase after he died, not any sedatives or even grass made any difference.
