Im visiting Dubai at the moment for work and am free in the evening, can anyone suggest anything fun (shopping is ok - But not really my think)

- Shaikh Rashid Bin Maktoom House .. traditional museum and shops
- Desert Safari
- wild wadi
this is only small list .. but main tourists attractions

You don't neccessarily have to shop at the malls but if you go to the Emirates Mall, you will enjoy looking around, and sitting at the many scenic coffee shops. Many people go there for the little cafes just read the newspaper and relaxing or with friends. There are many sitting areas with different themed cafes. Then you can even watch the happenings at the ski slope inside while sitting too.

Dubai is a great city to 'just hang out' in. You can take water taxi rides, dive, visit the sail boat hotel. There's tons of things to do and they don't have to be centred around shopping eventhough the souks are wonderful too.

you should definitely try the desert safari and if you feel more like going out as in drink and dance I love:
-Bar Zar (Madinat Jumeirah)
-Trilogy (Madinat Jumeirah)
-MIX (Grand Hyatt)
-The bars in the Emirate Towers
-The Apartment (Jumeirah Beach Hotel)

20% of the World's tower cranes are currently in Dubai, so there are lots of building sites to rubberneck.
