Beat the dvd player in to submission by clubbing it with a Persian cat.

If you choose to be more humane, unplug it (the dvd player not the cat) and unscrew the screws that hold the case together. Disassemble the outer casing and you should be able to see what's causing the problem and remove the dvd.

You probably have the disc trapped in between the draw and the case.

If it's a no hoper, batter it to death with the cat.

Personally I would say a DVD engineer!! I would take it to a local repair shop and get someone who knows what they are doing or else you are likely to do irrepairable damage to your DVD player and possibly the DVD itself.

If you know the DVD player has had it, then I would take the casing off and see if you can free the mechanism without resorting to brute force in order to save the DVD itself.

Like Wilfred says, if it's a Computer DVD or CD drive, a paper clip will do. Other wise a standalone player takes something more brutish.
