I have been playing a lot of MAME games lately, and I was thinking that there's absolutely no arcades around my city, except the one at the mall. So I'm thinking about opening an arcade up when I'm older. Much older. What do I need to know when doing this? By the way, it's in FL,

You need to know that the decline in arcades over the past 10 to 20 years is due to console systems (Nintendo, X-box, Wii, PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3, Sega, Game Cube, Atari) and the personal computer. People are more incline to spend $30.00 on a game they can play countless hours and have friends play also. Eat & drink what you want, Listen to the music you want, even use the bathroom you came to trust.

I too am in FL and own arcade games and repair them. The biggest arcade centers are Chucky Cheese, and Game Works. Dave and Busters are coming. Some Malls have game centers and then there is Malibu and Celebration Station. Most Arcade vender's that own a lot of machines place a couple in establishments like Wal-Mart, Laundry Mats, Gas Stations, ect..

Each game new will run you 1000+ each if you buy 25 or more at once. The larger games Like DDR 5000+ and Out Run 3500+. You of course will need a business license and any other local operators license required. You will need a location zoned commercial and enough room for the games. You will need Insurance. You will need change machines or attendance that are able to dispense change. You will need to put down deposits on utilities. You will need to have tech's lined up for repairs when they come up.

More or less If you don't have the money (CASH) for the start up and need to barrow the money from a lender you will need a business plan to present to them.

I too have thought about opening one and done the research and its not a good investment alone. To make it work the arcade needs to be part of another business. ie If you were to open a small snack shop to sell food and drink, and then have an arcade in the back.

There are so many variables that are out there you really need to do a thorough business analysts.

I wish you luck,

You need to know where you can buy the game machines for your arcade and where you can get a loan to afford the building for your arcade. You also will need to know a bunch of contacts, like financial analysts, accountants, etc. They will help you keep track of the money in your business. Also you have to research your area. Is an arcade in demand in your area? If not, you will go out of business.
