When people have WAY to many guinea pigs and other rodents, they cannot give them enough attention or love. I mean seriously, I would limit myself to 4 pigs, and I only have 2. I wouldn't EVER have like 10 of them! I mean once you count up the amount of food, vet bills, ect., don't you think its a bit obsessive/ creepy? Its like a old lady with like 22 cats... they end up breeding and you have sooo many others to take care of that they have babies upon babies upon babies! Not only that, but imagine how stinky the house must be! Also, if you have kids, they sure as hell won't help! Any one else agree? I mean its cute and all with all those fuzzy bodies but could you imagine if you had to find a place for them to stay when you, god forbid, have a vacation or a meeting?

Yes... I think rescuing is another story though... However some people just buy animals on a whim and forget about them! They just buy them, or keep them, because they are pretty... if the whole world ran that way, thank god it doesn't, imagine how many living things would have starved or been deformed!?

I totally agree! You should only bite off as much as you can chew, and don't go about buying all these animals that you can't even take care of! Katie has a point there!

I aggree if you are keeping guinea pigs as pets yes you should only have as many as you can give attention to and afford. I on the other hand have had some where between 50 and 100 at any given time since I have a rescue now for unwanted and abandoned pigs. Most come to me pregnant and I have had numerous litters. When I was showing and raising guinea pigs before my rescue I had around 20 to 30 at a time. All my pigs were well socialized and handled daily by me or my partners. I also had my nephews and nieces around A LOT and they all did there share of holding, petting, grooming and bathing. I specialized in Texels and if anyone knows about there coats they need daily extensive grooming. So it wasnt obsessive it was a hobby and I made sure they were all taken care of. It WAS very expensive and still is. I go through a bale of hay a week, 50 lb bags of food from the distributor, water bottle changes every day, cage cleaning 2 times a week, treats, vegtables, grass, vet care for spay and nueters or illness and injuries. MAN its very pricey I'm glad I get donations

FYI: I have many animals in my house dogs-cats-mice-guinea pigs-what ever needs a rescue or a home, and guinea pigs are great pets. People just dont understand them enough or or bother to learn how to care for them properly. My house at most smells of bedding since they are in a well venilated basement. My house smells worse after the rain from the dogs.

Yes, having too many of an animal is going to mean a very stinky and nasty house that visitors won't like going to.

Hehe. But imagine how fun it could be to have a herd of trained guinea pigs at your command!

I'm like this, but with guppy fish. I want to keep breeding them to come up with new color strains and patterns. I hate killing any, so now I have a few hundred fish in 5 tanks. Hopefully, my place doesn't smell like a pond!

I agree. The crazy cat lady thing drives me crazy! People like that should be carted off and locked up because of the way they let their cats multiply crazily.

If you put just two dogs/cats/gerbils/guinea pigs in an area, one male and one female, and provided enough food somehow, and just come into the room in a year or two, guess how many there'll be? Too many to count, a lot of mutts (if you put two dogs of different breeds in), and a lot of food to give.

I don't understand why people love guinea pigs. Dogs are much better pets, as are cats.

Animals don't belong in the house--especially rodents. Period. There are so many reasons--smell, sanitation (this is a big one), expense (for care and damage incurred), safety (in some cases), legalities (in some cases), and inconvenience.

I agree. They start out with good intentions, but it gets out of control. Then THEY end up being the problem!
