I'm having a difficult time deciding which college to apply to.
At this point, I'm extremely interested in pre med.
My question is, should I settle for a less reputable college if I can get into a pre med program, or would I choose to go the the better college that would not let me take part in their pre med program? (of course I can still get into med school if I'm not in pre med, but it would be more difficult)

Any input would be much appreciated =)

No question in this case - go for the better college. As you said, you do not need to be in a pre-med program in order to get into medical school, but it would be far more difficult to get into medical school coming from a lesser university.

Pre-med is not an actual degree usually. I never seen a place where is was an actual degree. Pre-med is just a program that requires you to take certain courses that are required. Usually, pre-med majors in biology.

If you can't get into their "pre-med" program, then you can just get a science degree like biology or chemistry these would be the more useful. Maybe phyisics might not be that useful, but you could get a BA in it so you can take extra bio/chem classes.

Reputation is not everything. Many "unknown" colleges have extremely solid programs. You should choose the school that will best prepare you for medical school. Look for a school/program that offers a wide range of courses with competent faculty (look at faculty bios). Try to find a school that provides many volunteer opportunities, and programs that help prepare you to take the MCAT. You do not need to go to a top tier university to get into medical school.
