Barry Bonds, 73 in 2001.
No matter how much the denialists denounce it.
Not this year.

Barry Bonds hit 73 bombs in 2001 beating Mark Mcquire's record of 70 HRS in 1998, both an incredible feat, some people say that these records are tainted by suspicions of steroid use, but Steroids can not help a person make contact with the ball. Before Mcquire hit 70 HRS the record was 61 by Roger Maris, who over took Babe Ruths mark of 60. With the steroid controversy some people still consider this to be the true record. Either one you decide to believe or recognize they are still massive amounts of HRs in a season and anyone should be proud to get anywhere near any of those numbers.
I don't think AROD can catch 73 this year but wish him the best of luck trying. However if he stays healthy I believe he will eventually over take Bonds all time lead in HRS what ever he may end up with at the end of his career.

National League - Barry Bonds, San Francisco Giants: 73 in 2001 (MLB record)
American League - Roger Maris, New York Yankees: 61 in 1961
Alex Rodriguez has almost no shot at the MLB record, but he does have a shot at catching Maris. That's roughly a homer every two games. It'll be tough, but he might get there.
I have my feelings about Bonds' record as well, but his 73 is what's on the books, so that's the info I'll give, whether I like it or not.

Barry Bonds hit 73 and I dont think A-Rod has a shot to beat him because there are 20 games left and A-Rod is 22 HRs behind.

The record for homers in one season, not including cheaters, is 61 by Roger Marris.
A-rod has about a 5% chance because he'd have to hit eleven homers to break it.....only 20-or so games left
