(1) is the word "so" an adverb or conjunction?

(2) is "for" a preposition?

(3) is "without" a preposition? and "mention" in "not to mention" is still a verb yea?

(4) "best" an adjective or adverb? what about "always"?

1.) 'so' is an adverb (Remember conjunction juntion?)
2.)'for' is a prep.
3.)'without' is a prep and 'mention' is still a verb
4.)'best' is an adj and 'always' is an adverb.
