I have done some searching on this site and every question about America that I go to there are answers like "America is a racist, evil country, or America sucks". And I want to know, why do people say things like that? You have no right to judge a country where most of those people who insult the U.S have never been to! Every country has it's ups and downs, I mean, take a look at Britan, they might have a healthcare program, but it is a total bureaucracy over there! Those people think that they can judge America just from what they hear from the news. And I am asking you how can you judge a country where you don't know the people. So what if we have racist, evil people? Every country in the world does! Instead of judging us by the bad, judge us by the good! Look at Operah Winfrey! She traveled to South Africa to give Christmas to those who never had it! There are good people here too! So why judge us and hate us? That is what I am asking you.

The USA has many many flaws and the flaws are getting greater and greater.
In fact, only people in poverty stricken third world countries still think the USA is the land of opportunity. Do some reading on Pew research polls on how the rest of the world views americans and how americans view their own country. Its all falling apart, and its our own leaders who are doing it on purpose. Notice how many problems we have that they claim are nearly impossible to solve, problems that they themselves have created....like immigration, importing of goods from china, Iraq war, etc......just for starters. One of the most disturbing trends is the evangelicals effect..of which we have only seen the tip of the iceberg.
These nuts want war, they think the bible supersedes the constitution and they hope for calamity that will end the world....and believe it is america's duty to support israel cause God told us to.
By the way, the reason why others have a right to judge us is because our actions affect them. We dont believe in minding our own business, and our greed and selfishness creates a world that is more dangerous than it should be. And americans cannot simply blame it on government, cause the government is designed to represent americans...even though they dont really..but we allow it to happen. When bombs are given to israel to kill palestinians, its just like the USA dropped the bombs. When the USA attacks invades and occupies Iraq under bogus circumstances, it is the american tax payer that pays the way and the american voter that allows their leaders free reign to do so.

Yeah... I'm sure the kids in South Africa's biggest worry is whether or not they get Christmas...
And your logic of "dont judge us by the bad, judge us by the good" is interesting. I'm sure the Taliban wish we'd do the same for them...
Anyway, to answer your question, a lot of the Americans on this site are arrogant and totally ignorant about other countries. They say some really harsh things about other great countries which they have never been to, and then get all appalled and horrified when people do it back. It's embarrassing to read sometimes.
Listen to yourself- what you said about England- you just made a judgement about another country that you probably have no experience of. And then you tell other people not to do it. Well what makes you so special?!?!
edit- "myfianceisamoney"- do you honestly think this is the only country with freedom?! Really? Plenty of other Western countries have just as much (sometimes even more, depending on how you look at it). See, this sort of arrogance is exactly what makes people hate us.

This is a very good question, however the answers could run the entire spectrum of the rainbow. You so correct, because in my opinion the MEDIA is the biggest culprit of all time. They love to sensationalize and prioritize the negative while putting the positive on the back-pages or rewarding those that contribute to our society on a daily basis. Prime examples; Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Lindsey Lohan, Brittany. It's ridiculous the kinds of press these things generate. Turn on TV any day, evening, or night and I guarantee the majority of what you'll see are reports of various types of crime and illegal activity, so with WWW how can any of this escape other peoples of the world. Granted there are the same types of problems in other parts of the world, but I believe if we "Americans" would try to accentuate the positive some of this negativity towards us may diminish. This is just my take.

Ok, from a NON-AMERICAN point of view, this is what I have to say about your question.
i don't hate america but if you look at it at a macro level, the entire USA, as big as it seems, does not have major resources (oil is in Middle East, diamonds are in Israel, etc..)- just a lot of advertising muscle (the media like Oprah Winfrey and Hollywood movies & tv shows) and big bargaining power, most of the time, when USA makes a donation for impoverished countries or victims of great catastrophic calamities, they ask for something in return (like loyalty or assistance) its mostly pure business to your government.
Again, i do not hate America ... or the Americans, its just how your government tries to run every other nations lives which are a bull.
think about it.
P.S. it was sad though about Hurricane Katrina. I was thinking maybe the neighboring states would have helped New Orleans, but I keep seeing Bon Jovi giving boulevard houses to the victims. Other nations should have helped you guys too..

I think a factour may be that a lot of Americans don't even like their own country or like it too much. Now, you're judging Britain by what you hear on the news, so I suggest practicing what you preach. How else are they going to get their information? Visit? I wouldn't want to visit America if I weren't from here. Actually, I want to move out of this country soon. We are biggots and arrogant, and those of us who aren't aren not the ones on the news. The ones who are bigots and arrogant are in the public eye and helping us run our country.

The answer by Fraser T truly answers the question. He was a bit off on the number of countries the US has bombed to get their 'compliance'. You could find them on this site: http://www.davidbeaumont.btinternet.co.uk/msf/listbombed.html.
The world does NOT hate the average American, they hate the policies of the US Government which leaves them in poverty and dispair so Americans could maintain their extragavant lifestyle.

I'm an Australian and as you probably know we are generally standing beside you on everything that happens.
From Vietnam to Afghanistan to Iraq and then god knows where we traditionally stand beside you.
Foreigners have an issue with Americans because you are perceived as arrogant and only concerns with your own interests. Same as us Aussies, although because we carry a much smaller stick no-one worries about us much.
You know what - stuff 'em. Yanks, Aussies, POMS, and Kiwis all do ok the way things are. Ignore the whingers and enjoy your life.
It's only my view but surely we (as nations) have earned it!

I agree - I've been to the US many times on business and there ARE many good people there.
But the country is being run by people who are not so good and who do think too highly of themselves, their friends, business connections and profit margins and war contracts.
It's really ironic.......Americans complain that the good gentle Muslims ought to stand up and slience the insane ones who cause trouble.
Yet the same can be said for Americans - the good gentle Americans ought to stand up and silence the insane ones who cause trouble.
It seem clear to me that both Americans and Eastern Muslim culture suffer the same problem - both think too highly of themselves and as a result their image is a disaster.
