While it is a matter of opinion, all of these answers are true. The M3's predecessors were the 2002tii and tii turbo. Also with the 3 series models repeatedly being the most reliable BMWs, the high performance M3 inherits that reliability plus adds high performance to the equation. I hope that helps.

Well, of course, that's just an opinion but BMW has had a history of putting the M3 out front in the small performance car arena. The new 2008 V8 M3 is no exception, but is very pricey.

Some old timers would say the 1972 BMW 2002 TII Or in Europe The 1973 2002 TII turbo. Least we do not forget the 1970/73 2800 cs coupe.

The M3 is an automotive legend and it sets the bar for performance across the globe. I'd say that's all the reason you need. (Although I am closely attatched to my old 740i, I would love to own an M3 as well...too bad I'm broke!)

I agree with dotWdot. Not only it's relatively affordable, economical to run ( depending how you drive off course ), 4 seats, enough room in the trunk, yet insanely fast.

It is "The most popular", fastest production 3 Series, and all-around (utility) vehicle for the masses rolled into one.

"The best" is subjective.

Because of the target audience - Its hardcore yet achievable - its the ultimate carrot - and with quad exhausts I bet it sounds awesome.
