1997 honda civic 1.6 L. my clutch housing oil seal is leaking, but im curious what fluid is leaking. my transmission is full and my clutch fluid is ok. It has 178,000 miles on it, and as far as I know its been leaking a while, but real slow

There are 2 possible fluids that can leak from the clutch housing. Transmission fluid from the transmission and engine oil from the rear main seal. Since the clutch slave cylinder is mounted outside of the clutch housing, it wouldn't be coming from inside. I'd bet it's engine oil>

check your rear oil seal sounds like that is your problem or slavecylnder could be leaking hydraleak fluid

break fluid is in there , Check motor oil and all the fluids again its coming from some where , Put some on your finger and smell it what does it smell like?? hope this helps.

You would have to touch the fluid and smell it, look at it..... oil would be brown or black, brake fluid red-brown in color and strong smelling, trans fluid red and oilly.....

If both levels are OK & if it's dark brown, then it's engine oil. If it's green or pink , it's coolant.
