Howard Hughes was both mentally and physically ill. He was obsessive/compulsive, addicted to codeine and Valium, and suffered from syphilis, which he contracted at an early age. This is what may have caused his mental illness.

He had mental issues, maybe OCD.Those issues affected his health.I live in Houston where Mr. Hughes is buried.I went to visit his grave. There were 2 empty lotus shaped bronze urns with no flowers. Its amazing no one in that movie was thoughtful enough to send flowers even 1 time to his grave. He is in a unmarked grave next to his father and brother. They had to fence off the area because of vandelism.

It was his mental illness that was the most crippling for him..he had many phobias and fears (main one was he was afraid to leave his house). In this respect, it did end up taking a toll on him physically.

So, did he write it?
