Only you know what would interest you enough to make a living from it. The good news is that you have a skill, and can earn money using it. Now you must think hard about what you enjoy doing. It is possible to make a living from almost anything, but only you know what that is. Why not start by making a list of things you do want in your new job - dealing with people, dealing with animals, working near the sea, etc., and also a list of the things you don't want - late working hours, having to work at weekends, whatever. Hopefully this will begin to goive you some ideas, and then you must go for it. If you need training or a qualification then you have to fit that in with your work as a chef. When you are ready, make the change. Good luck!

You have some good suggestions already but you don't say in what type of organisation you work as a chef e.g., is it a school, restaurant, hotel or something else?

Whatever it is, you presumably have some idea of the other types of job that are done there. Even if there are no vacancies in those jobs, try to talk to some of the people doing them and try to find out more about them.

If all else fails, you could always teach me how to cook! (Only joking!)

All you aspiring cooks,
LISTEN TO THIS GUY!
If you go to culinary without real kitchen experience, this could be you!!!

At 24 you are still young enough to move into another line of work without too much headache.
Ask yourself, what do I enjoy doing?
Maybe you should get some career counseling!

I hope you find a better job soon because nothing is more miserable than having to go to a job you hate!

Good Luck!!

Do evening classes or work part time whilst you go to college for stuff you really want to do.

However, I suggest you first make an appointment with a career advisor to talk about where you want to go. http://www.prospects.ac.uk is a good website to find out what you would like for a profession. Alternatively websites like tickle.com and s-cool.co.uk can give alternative insights to where you want to do in life.

Every person has a dream in life and their life's goal is to reach that dream. If what you are doing is not reaching that goal, I suggest you stop and think about what you are doing.

Self help books are great on recreating a mindset to move towards your life's goals if you are humble enough to look through them.

Catering is hard to get out of, so you know the pitfalls of a kitchen and food preparation. You know how to sort things out when they go wrong. You know good raw materilas and not so good and to make the best of what you have So who need some sort of a management position in event organising or perhaps a course in businees and accounts. If you want to get away from catering it will be harder but a course such as business studies perhaps to degree level might be useful. Only you know what you want and that is difficult because you sound as if you don't know

Think of a job you would really like to do.
Investigate the best way to get into that particular job.
If you are really serious, bite the bullet and go for it.
Remember the grass is always greener on the other side, but with your qualifications if the worse came to the worse you could always go back to catering.
Life is far to short to be unhappy and you are longer dead than alive!!!!!
Good Luck.

Wow, you really do hate cooking! Since that's the only formal training you have, I guess the best thing for you might be in a related field, but not as a cook. Something like an event planner, or with a food processing or preperation plant, possibly in quality control, purchasing, marketing, etc.

Go to an employment agency (reputable one) and have them place you with different employers. You will get exposed to different types of work. Make a decision from there.

Maybe you could go for a hired guard. That is kind of close to your dream job.
