Y = x - 2 is an equation defining a line.

Line 2; x = 4 - y
Lines will intersect at the point where the x of Line 1 = the x in Line 2, stated mathematically:
Line 1: y = x - 2
= (4 - y) - 2 : note: (4-y) is the x of Line 2
therefore, doing the math
y = (4 - y) - 2
