I go back and forth on that issue and the reason I think of when I am considering keeping my Q&A private is from people who may desire to stalk me. I have had experiences where it has happened and these (or this) individuals were purposely trying to sabatage my chances of getting best answers - this happened to me primarily on the Education section. It has happed elsewhere - but it was the worst on the Education section. The person or person who were doing that had their profiles removed by Y/A as I and others complained about these individuals. This, however, was prior to the Y/A providers giving us the ability to block others from view our questions and answers - that is another reason for my sometimes overly enthusiastic seeming behavior to block people for a time (in some cases).
Good Luck!!!
Update - two hours later - if you notice I am not sure what was wrong with my answer, but I got a thumbs down from someone (I am not sure what is wrong with my answer - but there it is). Thank you to the people who gave me the thumbs up!!!
This question interested me so I went back to check it - I am going to star it.

to keep it from strangers like u. hehe
this way I can manage who can see my Q&A and who can't. Also, it decreases the chance of getting reported cuz there are some ppl here who like to report u just for the heck of it

I do it because I had a troll who would go through all my answers and give me "thumbs down" on all of them.
