1. Fear-- fear of difference from a perceived social norm gives one a sense that one can be protected from the limits of one's own insecurities.
2. Fascination-- Fixation on a perceived social norm is a form of love in which our desire for a given object displays itself in our willingness to become like that object.
3. Superficiality-- One simply has little to offer in terms of originality, lacks an interior life through which one negotiates values, or remains so underdeveloped in terms of their own character that they must find reference points in social conformity to shore up a dimished sense of self.

well there are 3 types or ways, that people conform

Compliance is public conformity, while keeping one's own beliefs private.
Identification is conforming to someone who is liked and respected, such as a celebrity or a favorite uncle.
Internalization is acceptance of the belief or behavior and conforming both publicly and privately.

so not sure exactly what you are going for, there are two varieties of conformity

informational-turning to others for info
nomative- conforming to be liked or accepted by the group
