We are moving in about 2 months. My baby has just turned 5 months...and i wasn't expecting him to crawl! But today I was sitting in a beanbag reading while he was playing with a toy phone...to my surprise...he grabbed my foot. He had mysteriously gotten himself 10ft across the lounge floor. Surprised, i watched him do it again...he plants his face flat on the floor and pushes his feet out...his bum rides up in the air and he goes forward maybe an inch at a time?

I dont know how long it'll take before he's crawling properly...he's pretty strong though!

Nevertheeless...I have a mound of babyproofing to do! Anyone got any helpful advice? We don't have stairs...what we do have is a LOT of cables that need to be there...and i don't know what to do with them!

you can get cable 'tunnels' that look just like PVC piping for you plumbing only not as big in diameter and you just thread all the cables through them. i know IKEA have them but I don't know if you have that store where you are.

you can try taping the cables to skirting boards around the edge of the room or actually running them up the wall and accross the ceiling along the cornice (where the wall meets the ceiling) you may need to buy cable extension cords but its worth it. cover up or buy the type of power boards that have an automatic shut off.
make sure you buy some power point plugs to put in any empty sockets to make sure he can't stick anything in the holes.
baby gates are a godsend so he can't get into any no-go rooms.
invest in a playpen or a portable cot can double as play pen.

oh and put EVERYTHING out of reach like breakables, books etc because he will get to them!!lol

Best of luck, now the fun really starts!

You should tape up any wires, cables, etc. so that they are at least above kiddo's hands. He will find them! All things are "free game" to him now. He is exploring his world. That is what he is "programmed" to do. Block off access to all plug-ins and power bars. You can use cardboard barriers to do this. This is just for insurance. You must be watchful all the time. You have chosen to be a parent of a rug rat/curtain climber. You must take responsibility for that. (wink). Best wishes. Tom

you can get a pipe fitting enough to thread the cables through. That's what I did in my house . Get plugs for all the outlets too ,and gates to the rooms you do not want the baby in and gates to close of start top and bottom.

Good luck

Use the word NO! It worked with my son at that age. He would grab & climb & pull & tug and i said no enuff that he must have thought it was his name. If that dont work & you're moving soon, use duct tape. If u cant duct it **** it
